I have to say that I have never stropped without the slap unless I concentrate to not do it. I think it's a speed effect tbh. It doesn't harm the edge.

edit: I dont do the lift off though I used to. I now just flip the razor fast so that it slaps.Last edited by PuFFaH; 03-31-2007 at 09:36 PM. Reason: because I'm an idiot :(

I'm with Joe. I remember in the old days the barber would strop the razor at the chair with the hanging strop and I remember always hearing that slapping sound and he stropped so fast you almost couldn't see his hand moving.

Thanked: 369I usually keep the razor on the strop while stropping, but sometimes, just for fun, I'll strop just like this barber does.
Nobody mentioned that this guy is also turning the strop over a couple of times without missing a beat.

His he using a paste of some sort on the opposing side? I've never, never, stropped like that with a paste.

Thanked: 1This is all very interesting guys. I'm glad you offered your experiences seeing barbers do this.
I'm in no rush to develop this guy's technique, though

This thread has inspired me to go back up the street for another hair cut and shave and major chat session with the barber I've mentioned ,"Harley". I'll report back later. Mike B
