Thanked: 1Strop making supplies
Were can one buy Leather for strop making? online
what are recommended specs for strop leather?
also: small quantities of chromium oxide? (Handamerican.com has been down for a while now)
I know it would be easier to get one from Tony but we're not the type of people to do things the easy way. Are we?

Thanked: 0I've also wanted to make a strop, considering that I've been waiting for handamerican's strops to get online for the past 6 months and my old strop is on its last leg. Maybe I'll have time to do that and finish restoring my razors over Easter, who knows. I'm not 100% certain of this, but I think the belt 'blanks' used here would be a full grain leather and they come in a 3'' wide strap which might be suitable for a strop with a little bit of hardware and work put into it. My belief is that there wouldn't (hopefully) be any flaws in the natural leather since it would be visible when the belt's made. I asked about making a strop from that over at Badger and Blade, and the overall consensus was that it would work, though I'm not sure how well. If you do make a strap, please let me know what kind of material you used, treatment, etc. because I'm very interested.

Thanked: 108Heliguy, I've got enough chrome oxide to keep me going a while, and would be happy to send you some gratis. PM me your address.
I wonder if you guys or anyone here knows where I could find a wood handle for a homemade paddle strop. Doesn't need to be special, but wood would be nice.

Thanked: 108Heliguy, this is very kind of you. Please don't feel obliged –my Cr2O3 offer wasn't meant to feel you out for a trade! It's a lot more trouble to make a handle than to put some paste in the post.
Have a look at this. The main picture front and center is more or less what I'm looking for. Ideally with a wood screw, however, so I can just screw it into the wooden paddle.
I've gone to hardware stores, home depot, etc., and they all just look at me like I'm nuts. They have knobs, and they have handles like you've have on a desk drawer, but not, it seems, this sort of thing. I started looking online (and found the pic I linked), but places like that sell them in bulk to merchants and manufacturers.
If you have any ideas, let me know. If you end up making something for me, I'll insist on paying you for it.

Thanked: 324Or just buy an old worn out ugly razor strop on ebay and polish up the clamp. Clamps don't dry rot.
