    Default CrOx or Diamond Spray?

Hey guys. I have a linen strop and I am trying to decide which is better. I have the srp CrOx 0.5 spray and also the srp 0.5 diamond spray. Which one would you use? When honing my stones are norton 220/1k norton 4k/8k and naniwa 12k

I don't use crox or spray on my regular linen strop. I use my crox on a piece of balsa wood. I use my diamond spray on a piece of felt. Both purchased from Hobby Lobby.

Idea, I found that Crox works best on a cotton web strop that I use daily. I have Diamond on a felt table top, but find that, for me, the Crox works best on the cotton.
Have a nice linen strop that I leave plain and usually alone.

I find CrO is more of an all purpose finisher. I reserve the diamond for certain razors with very hard steel.

CrOX here. I just picked up the crayon from SRD and it works great to "waking up" a blade after a few months.

    Use both.

Go to a fabric store and buy a yard of nylon or poly strapping for 2 or 3 dollars, buy the widest you can find usually 2 in, and some fusing tape. Fusing tape is an iron on glue.

Then go to a hardware store and get 4, 2 in D rings, Ace Hardware here locally carries them. Fold the strapping over the rings and iron the tape to the end, then iron the ends to the strop. Fusing tape is very strong and will last many years.

Paste both strops, Diamond is more aggressive and can be used when a bit more keenness is needed.

Chrome Oxide will smooth a harsh edge and can revive a flagging edge. but not as quickly as Diamond. Many use Chrome Oxide after Diamond.

They are both good to have in your tool box and use as needed. Make sure to wipe your blade well before putting it to leather after using either pasted strop.

I prefer the SRP Chrome Ox crayon over the spray, it is much less messy, but have both and both work well. You need very little of each, 4-5 sprits.

Good Linen while used mostly for cleaning the blade, can also do the same thing with many more laps (2-300 laps). The potential for linen and leather is often over looked.

Make sure to always keep your spine on the strop.

    naviafra,

Be careful & cautious if you are intending to use diamond on a hanging strop for razor refreshing

The 0.5 micron diamond cuts very fast indeed !!

(I use it on a hard leather paddle to finish my high vanadium steel knives and it cuts them plenty fast - so think how quicly it cuts a razors edge)

    Have fun

    Best regards
