Took awhile for me to coordinate my stroke to where I don't do that anymore 99% of the time. So starting out with a piece that won't break your heart if it gets nicked up might be a good idea ....... if that kind of thing breaks your heart ...... if you don't care one way or the other, well that is another thing.
I have the exact same issue. I use the modular strop from SRD and just flipped the leather around. Figure it should last me a few more years
