A marble tile has to be machined flat, and hence it is very flat and does not need lapped, although it pays to check this assumption with a straight edge.

A ceramic tile is obviously formed and baked. During that process it could go off flat.

HandAmerican website is down right now, should be up soon. Keith sells Cr2O3 and other similar stuff, including bench hones, glass plates + leather + paper for honing, is expected to release some new horse leather later next week, etc.

The Scary Sharp system [honing & stropping in one unit] is one of HA's (Keith's) main products on his website for anyone who needs anything sharpened -- usual suspects include us straight shavers, knife aficianados, and woodworkers.
