Thanked: 0I was afraid to try that as of yet. I wanted to do the others first then post here to see what everyone thought. So now I will wait for the seller to respond and go from there I guess. Now I know if I do have to keep it what needs to be done. Thank you everyone.

I am not familiar with the characteristics of that particular strop, but I'd opt to send it in for a refund or at least a replacement with a smooth 127 that Glen mentioned instead. I'd feel cheated if I bought a new strop and had to go extraordinary lengths to make it usable.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 0I will wait and see what the seller says first just in case they say they will do a return on it. If not then a sanding we will go.

Just the opposite. The times I have ordered stuff from them, everything was fine.
I have a Russian leather strop (not from Royal Shave) that looks nothing like that one. Here's a couple images of the front stropping surface. The funky coloring is how it arrived. Guess it comes that way from the tannery. The back side has a texture similar to Scotch grain leather, not unlike a football.

Thanked: 13245That is great news,
I have seen one, just one bad #827 over the years, I finally sanded it out and used it for Pastes, still using it to this day..
They don't take to sanding very well just by the nature of the Russian finish, they are also very well "Conditioned" so I would advise NOT using any dressings or Oils on it just hand rubbing should do the trick..
You will see all this once you get a good one
The Linen is very noisy when new, it often is off putting to people that haven't used it in the past but it works very well and it does quiet down after a bit..
Hopefully you get a good one and it serves you well for many years they are a great "workhorse" strop normally
