Pasted Strop
Hello all,
I have a question concerning strops and pasting them,
anyways I have made a bench strop out of leather and tile and I decided that since Ii made two I would put some slurry from my Belgian yellow as a paste.
Did I destroy my bench hone and should i never think about putting this concoction on my tony miller or should i run with it?
Thanks for your help

Vince,
I have absolutely no idea. It sounds like an interesting idea. The slurry has garnets in it, which in theory would act as an abrasive. The leather might make for a slower cutting action and smoother finish than you'd get off the coticule...
You should be able to easily clean that off the leather if it doesn't work. As long as the leather doesn't get too wet, there's no harm in trying. Let us know how it works out!

Its not the loose garnets sloshing around that really does the cutting, its the garnets in the matrix. The loose stuff in the slurry just enhances things. I would think if you pasted a strop with garnet slurry they would be too loose to do any real work or damage. I would think its different than diamand paste which is a manufactured item with diamonds in suspension or chrome oxide which is a homogenious material. It would probably be like stropping on plain leather with steroids. You might get some extra polishing. Sounds interesting, keep us informed.
