Thanked: 0Overhoning on a pasted strop?
Is this possible, and if so, what's the best way to avoid it? Thanks!

Yes... Just be gentle and do it in 5 stroke increments. As soon as the edge stops improving, you're done with the grit.

Very possible to do and as I say in my instructions use the least number of passes on the least coarse paste needed to refresh the edge.
Try 5 to 8 on the 0.5 and test, if not enough try 10 and test. Need more, try 5 on the 1.0, 5 more on the 0.5 etc.....
Different razors and different faces respond differently. One guy may use only the 0.5 side for 5 to 10 passes but will use it every week, rarely using the coarse sides. Other can shave for months with a gradually dulling razor but when they do refresh they start at the 3.0 side and need to slowly work their way down to the fine pastes. One with a low tolerance for dullness may need to constantly keep his razor sharp, the other with a higher tolerance for dullness is completely resharpening his razor.
I have razors that respond both ways.

Any medium containing grit can cause an overhoning situation. Some just faster than others.
