pasted strop sticky...
Hey Everyone,
Just got a pasted strop from Tony and I had a question for you all. mine seems to be stickier at some points than others. Is this normal, and if not, now can I smooth it out?
any help would be appreciated

Brendon,
The initial application of pastes on natural leather can often be a bit splotchy as the paste sinks in more in some spots than others. The areas with excess will feel sticky at first but I find using a light touch over a few uses will start a glaze to form and the paddle will even out nicely. One could wet the thicker spots with a fingertip and rub the paste out a bit more but it seldom behaves as desired when new.
Later applications seem to go on very nicely. In reality there is far more paste than needed on the paddle, hence the stickyness but if I use any less people often feel slighted <g>. My two most common comments upon receipt of my 4 pre-pasted paddles are "wow, it looks like you used too much paste" or "Hmm, I thought it would have more paste on it" <g>

Thank you Tony, you're dedication to you craft is admirable. I'll just go ahead and keep using it as is until it evens itself out, trusting in your advice. I figured it was something like that, but wanted confirmation.
