Thanked: 0Repairing Strop
My strop curls on both ends making it impossible to strop. Does anyone know how to correct the curling of the edges? I put oil on the edges but to no avail. Thanks.

Welcome to the SRP Forum. Please feel free to post in the New Member Introduction Section when you get a chance.
If your strop has d-rings, I have read recently that you can put a slight bow in back side of the d-ring to remedy this. Other than that I have no other suggestions. Hopefully, some one with more knowledge on the subject will chime in.Regards;

Do you have one end of the strop attached to a solid unmovable surface, (for example middle hinge on your bathroom door). Pulling the strop taunt should remove the curl. Can you post a picture of your curling strop?

Thanked: 0Thanks for the suggestion. I have a Dovo "Col Ichibod Conk" #185 Straight Razor Strop. I do not know what you mean by "bow in the back of the d-ring"?

Does your strop look like this?
Generally, you would place the ends of the d-ring on two stationary points, such as the jaws of an open vice, and place a large pipe on the back side of the d-ring, oriented with the strop, and whack the pipe with a large hammer.Last edited by LexTac; 03-13-2015 at 04:01 PM.

Thanked: 0My strop isn't attached to anything. I keep it in the bathroom behind the door. When I strop, I put it on the side of a radiator that has a piece of metal sticking out. I pull the strop tight and then strop.

OK, So here is the strop in question:
It appears that you are pulling the strop tight. When attached to the radiator, is the strop located below your waist. If so, you may need to move the strop higher. As previously stated, attached to the back of the door. Also, when you strop, are you placing your thumb in the middle of the strop when you pull it tight? If so, this could cause the edges of the strop the raise, as well.Regards;

Thanked: 0When I attach it to the radiator, I am sitting down next to it. I pull it tight and hold the square metal piece only. The strop is pretty much horizontal.
