Thanked: 150nicked strop
I picked up my strop when I bought my razor, and while getting the mechanics of stroping perfected (which has not yet occurred), I have nicked the strop a couple of times. If i drag the blade over these nicks while I strop, will it nulify all of my efforts in straightening the blade?

Thanked: 1587It depends on the severity of the nicks. It's best to have a completely smooth surface, but try to track down the post by honedright where he posts a picture of the surface of one of his strops - I was suprised at what you could get away with.
In any event, if the cuts aren't too massive you could try rubbing them smooth (I've used a pumice stone in the past, and I think - but can't be certain - that some guys have used sandpaper). If you do this make sure you remove any pumice or sand particles left on the strop and condition the strop afterwards. Very important.

Thanked: 9I have used sandpaper without issues but I'd recommend pumice stone + stiff lather.
For small nicks just rub your hand over, maybe with some mink oil
Don't worry about it

If the nick is large or deep enough so you can feel it when you strop then its too big. Some fine sandpaper or a pumice stone will do the trick. Classic Shaving sells a pumice stone designed for the job. Don't pick up a pumice rock and try it, it will ruin your strop altogether.
