Modular felt and diamond spray
So I am about 40 shaves in to straights and my razor seems to be irritating my face more. I started with an Aust from SRD and have the modular paddle. I am thinking of trying the diamond spray on the felt pad to get some more shaves before hitting up Lynn for my free hone.
I read one post where it is uneven spraying and before I try it I was hoping to draw out any tips or tricks when using or opinions on whether I should.
All comments welcome...."When defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound,

Thanked: 250Lynn has an excellent youtube video about refreshing your razors and a large portion of it deals with sprays for your strop. He also talks about sprays and the modular paddle strop in another video. Even long time straight shavers like me can glean tips from the old master.

Thanked: 3215With any nano sprays you want to shake them very well and make sure the abrasive is fully in suspension.
Before you jump in blind and alter an edge, take a look at it with good magnification and strong light. Find out what the problem is. For new stroppers, typically too much pressure is used and the edge chips.
While Diamond can refresh a micro-chipped edge, it cannot remove large chips. Diamonds, depending on the grit size, substrate and pressure used can leave a harsh edge, Chrome Oxide used after Diamond sprays, can calm a diamond edge.

Thanked: 96I have the modular strop and love it. I upgraded to the horsehide pad and it works much better then the standard leather pad. I just picked up a modular strop that has a coated leather with chromium oxide. It is even all across the surface and works great. 3-5 laps and it leaves the blade sharp and gives a really smooth shave. The modular is the way to go. No give or rounding of the edge and very little learning curve.
