    Default Strop Delema!

UntilI get my TM strop I am faced with dealing with what I have: A two piece Horsehide I got on Ebay. 2-1/2" x 24". The front piece has a large scar and it's quite deep. Unfortunatly, the scar is in the middle and I don't feel it's salvagable. The other side is a black leather that looks to have very slight dimples in it. This piece seems to not have been used by the previous owner.

What is this for? - and can I use this, for now, as my main strop? I do have a cheap Zeepk that I have lost confidense in and I would prefer not to use it.

Either should be fine to use as a stop gap, and will probably make you love your TM even more when it arrives.

A deep scar may not be an issue. If you run your finger, laying it flat on the strop, do you feel this scar?

If not I'd suggest using it.

I would not use the dimply side. Your better off honing the edge correctly than trying to compensate with the dimples.

If the edges of the scar are smooth and the blade wont get caught in or on it then you should be pretty clear to go ahead.

That black dimpled leather sounds like the kind of leather which is intended to be like linen and leather together. It should work okay too.
