When stropping the really large or really heavy grind razors if you give a tiny bit more slack it will accomplish the exact same thing safely and without trying to hold the spine off the strop

Experiment with the amount of "Tautness" to get the best edge

so why is this? if the razor is honed with the spine in contact with the hone ( even with tape) shouldn't the spine be in contact with the strop? it would be almost impossible for a person to hold a hanging strop tight enough that the apex of the edge wouldn't come in contact with the strop even if they had used tape. right?
