The technique looks good. As said above lower the attachment point, approximately waste high. I would lighten up on the pressure more than a little bit.

Take an 18 inch of para cord or boot lace loop it around the end of the strop swivel, and attach to the door knob. That will put you at waist level.

Strop with the door open, in line with the door.
