One that I asked myself when honing on the Nakayama and off the Shapton 30k

I tried it both ways for quite some time I went with just leather after the honing on those two for a couple of years, now I am back to both Linen and Leather again..
Didn't really ever notice a difference, but I feel way more comfortable using the linen after honing, especially on customer's razor, Linen will find any issues..

I strop on Polyester Sailcloth with Chrome Oxide coming off an 8k going to a Jnat.

When the razor is finished, I strop on firehose linen, then do 5-10 more light finish laps on the Jnat on water or very thin slurry, depending on the stone.

Then strop on soft, Kanayama linen and leather prior to shaving and for maintenance.

Proper stropping, always improves an edge.

Linen is the classic stropping material for a fabric strop. Old time barbers used it as did most other folks going way back. Canvas was the secondary material.

I don't know it does anything different than most other fabric media but I have used it along with others and they all work about the same.
