Thanked: 0now what???
alright so i got in my amplex diamond abrasive compounds... 1 micron an 1/2 micron
pasted both sides of my strop
stropped, checked the edge... it popped a hair pretty easily.... so i tried to shave and the stinker wont do it. pulls at the hairs, won't cut for beans. so i check another hair.... doesnt really wanna pop too easily anymore. storp a bit, it pops alright. tried to shave. no luck. so what do you think i'm doing wrong? i know there are a number of things i'm sure. let me know what you think. i maybe just need some stropping practice. thanks in advance

There could be many possibilities. It could be the way you pasted the strop, it could be your stropping technique, it could be the sharpness of your razor. I usually use a hone and reserve the pasted strop as a final, final polish using .5 and .25 diamond. Maybe you need more than a strop or maybe you need more strokes. You need to consider all this and I'm sure others will chime in with other things.

f the razor was honemeister honed and starting to dull before you paste stropped it then you might need to do a little more.
If it was doing much better before you stropped then you might have overhoned it. How many laps did you do?
It's possible that you've knocked the edge off. Paddles are less forgiving to the edge than hangers. if you're me, this would be the likeliest explanation actually.
If the edge was unhoned, then you might need some coarser grits to get it humming.

Thanked: 0well i had the thing honed (as good as i can get it) on my coticle.
then i used the paddle strop with 1 micron and .5 micron... i spent a littlew more time on my stropping method to hold everyhing straight and took my time with nice even passes (about 20 trips) and i find i have the bottom half sharper than the top half. and even then it seems like it won't cut right. man i need to find someone in the area who knows how to do this to show me what i'm doing wrong.... maybe my razor just stinks??
out of the one si had it seems to be the least worn down... (maybe the least used for a reason?) all i can find for markings are "42 granite paris" and on the other side it says "HB520" inside a circle. maybe its junk?
maybe i need proper instruction.
where do i go from here? is there a good forum to post in to find someone in my area who i knowledgeable? it would be nice to find a local honemeister
thanks again guys

Post in the Honing Forum I guess. You can always try and set up a Skype session with Randy (randydance) or something. He's usually amenable to that sort of thing. PM him about it perhaps.
