Obie - what size Livi loom do you have?

Mine is the size small. Since I use about seven or eight inches of length on any strop, hanging or loom, the small Mastro Livi works perfectly well for me. There's also the travel size, much smaller than the small, and that also worked well for me when I had it. I must say, this is an unusual strop, and along with the Kanayama 80000, the best and the sweetest I've used.

Did you make your own strop than? Just seeing the suede etc. I am very interested in making my own when I will be able to, and want to get it right the first time. So if there's extra fabrics that would be a good idea, or ideal leather to use etc. I'm trying to gather all that knowledge before I (attempt to) make it.

No I didn't make any of it. I don't have the tooling or skill for that.
The Suede is a secondary part of the higher end Kanayama strops or added when you order.

As to leathers, it's a personal choice. What draw you like, what feel you're looking for.
As with pretty much all of SR shaving it comes down to personal choices

Thank you sir. Yea maybe I'll spend some time looking through some higher end strops and see what all they come with and have to offer and go from there.

You can go to SRD and get so many different strops at a reasonable price.

Look in the Stropping section of the forum. Gasman did a real good write up on 4 or 5 strops he's gotten recently.
If you're not very experienced in stropping, I suggest staying in the lower end as you'll nick or cut up your strop for the first while, while learning and getting muscle memory

And I noticed one fella on here making them out of kangaroo hide. So I'm going to look into acquiring a bit of that as well.

Hmmm seems he liked a buffalo leather the best eh? I may have to look into acquiring and the creation of both. I like to be as fancy as I can. But am always on a budget as to why I try to create as much as I can. you will find that what leather some like others don't, like so much of this sport. kangaroo is a fast leather, but feels a little funny to me, but I like the speed. buffalo leather isn't any better than cow or horse or even boar, its all in what you like. myself I,m more into shell than any thing, but a real nice piece of horse hide makes for a great strop too.

just experiment till you find what you like. or pick up some vintage ones and already have it made and ready to work with Tc
