    Default Confused on Strops

I have gone through 3 pages to see if this was addressed and I didn't see anything, unless I just overlooked it (which is very possible and I apologize) I am getting really confused. Is a hanging strop all I am going to need starting out or do I need to get a paddle strop also? Or is a four sided paddle pasted on two sides the best thing to get right off the bat and not even use a hanging strop? I am ordering lynn's dvd and hopefully things like that are covered but I am too impatient to wait so if you have any opinions please pass them along.

paddle strops are usually pasted with 1.0, 0.5, 0.25 micron pastes (anything coarser is more effectively done with a stone) for touching up a dulling edge/getting a wicked sharp edge after honing. they are not for daily use. you can get a plain leather side on a paddle for daily stropping but thats more of something you might use as a travel strop.

A hanging strop is what you use on a daily basis. It is used to align the edge of the razor and is used without pastes

Right off the bat, just get a nice hanging strop; you can do without the paddle. The paddle is an extra tool that you can add latter. Kinda like icing on the cake

    Check out www.thewellshavedgentleman.com for strops

Lynn's DVD does go through this stuff and it's a great resource

Thanks Eric, that cleared the fog I am waiting for Damon to get some in but again, my impatience may get the best of me and I may get one of those you directed me to.
