Default Types of paste.... DOVO red/black?

I don't see the Dovo Red/Black paste discussed here much. Does anyone use these?

I see the diamond pastes (3m - .25m) mentioned frequently and the red and green pastes occasionally but how does this combo from DOVO compare??

Is this a case of "They are 'okay' but not as good as the alternatives"?

Or are they just not very good at all?

    Appreciate your insights.

    Ken

The black paste is carbon based and has an effect as 0,25 diamond paste or probably finer.(I think that is as newspaper stroping)
Its use is after the red or after some number or shavings.
For green and red pastes my impression is that are finer than believed, but I have not carry out any comparitional test with diamond pastes so I am very reserved

To mean that I am very reserved to correspond with diamonds the effect and not for the quallity of these pastes.

I was wondering that myself. I bought a dovo loom strop in Germany and one side had the red paste on it. This information is from Classicshaving.com, I hope it helps.

Green Sharpening Paste is the coarsest with a particle size averaging 6 microns and should be used on a very dull edge.

Red Sharpening Paste is less coarse with a particle size of 2-4 microns and will refresh a mildly dull edge.

    Hope this helps...Brandon Lee

I use the Dovo red paste on one side of my hanging strop as a final polish generally. I've found that a light strop on the pasted side gives me a better shaving edge than just going straight off the Norton 8k.

I use the black/red pastes which seem to give me a good result. However, I haven't used any others and I'm also fairly new to this lark so make of it what you will. To each his own, I say. Give it a go and see if it works for you.

Is that all you use to polish the edge after honing?

I have been doing the same thing. I hone with my Norton, then I strop with the red paste and then strop with leather. I feel like it is not enough to get a shave sharp edge. I think that I will get the green paste and another strop, and then after honing, strop with the green, then the red, and then plain leather.

    Hey Brandon,
I will vouch again for the .5 micron and .25 micron diamond pastes. I had a thread called Diamond Pastes = Greatness or something like that, and I continue to be amazed at the effectiveness at obtaining a really keen edge and better and better shaves! Highly Recommended.

I am very reserved for this information, the particle size effect is not comparitional with diamond size
My impression is that the effect of these pastes are far more finer than this particle size information

    this is my impression :
    coticule
    Dovo green
    0,5 micron diamond
    Cr2O3
    Dovo red
    0.25 micron diamond
    Dovo black

But I want to know yours!

Where are you guys getting this information for the particle sizes of the red and black?

I've seriously been looking all over online and I haven't found anything I'd call reliable...

some say the red is 3-5, and the black 1-2... .now in this thread you're saying the red is less than chromium oxide, and the black less than .25 diamond paste??

I'm a little confused to be honest.
