Thanked: 0nicked Strop
I've been playing with Straights for about a month and enjoying it. I bought an inexpensive strop and have been using it with expected results. The other day I nicked it for the first time.
I assume that since I see antique strops with nicks in them all the time that it won't hurt the razor to continue using it?
If this is going to keep happening I think I will just get a horse or a cow and keep em on hand for stropping purposes. This is where the leather/horsehide argument really comes into play. I think cows are more passive plus while I'm there I can get fresh milk for my morning coffee!

You know, thats not a bad idea! I have a couple of goats. I could shave their hide and and use their bare back side to strop, and then milk them when I'm finished! Great idea!!

Hell, after I shave I could use my straight to kill one of our chickens for dinner!
The multiple uses of livestock and straights, its mind bogling!

Thanked: 108Dunno bout all this, I'd work out the kinks before you go on to live stropping.
If you're gonna stand back of a horse and strop your razor on his ass you'd better be damn sure you don't nick it.
