smooth out a fin?
okay, after my wtg pass, putting down my str8 to re-lather. bumped my handle and popped my str8 outta my hand into the sink, maybe 1 inch drop. needless to say, i checked and could see that the fin on the edge folded over . only about 1/16th inch long, but enough. pulled out strop and about 20 passes, still there. i do not have a hone or a pasted strop(birthday soon). will more passes on the strop pull that fin back or will it need to be honed again? i can see on my strop where the fin pulls at the leather. i am thinking hone.
i am really happy with my honer here in dallas, however this may be my excuse to send it to lynn or joe for honing!!
luckily i have a 6/8 genco i am working with trying to clean up. it is sharp, but needs a hone as well just to get that last little bit out of it. i did my xtg pass with it just to test it out. what a nice shave. a lot heavier than my normal razor, but NICE!
what do you think about the fin???

Chances are you will need to hone it down. This comes from purely academic experience as I haven't dropped a razor like that (yet)

I dropped my first razor before I even shaved with it - I got a chip on the middle of the edge, may be 1/32" within the edge and 3/16 wide.
I sent it to heavyduty (he was doing another razor for me) and he told me it's pretty big chip and took him quite a bit of work, but he honed it out and the raor shaves great.
You can always check with the person who hones your razors and see what they think. And if you can get good pics it may be worth getting an opinion in the honing or newbie section.
Sorry about that mishap - I'm sure you're glad you didn't start with TI LE

Without seeing the razor, I am going to have to say that it will need to be honed out.

dropped it off last night while i walked the mall. 1 hour later he had it corrected. cannot even tell where it happened. you barely could in the 1st place. i think he put a better edge on it then last time. will shave with it tonight, however passed the HHT across the blade with no issues.
for north dallas, if you need a blade honed, try the cutlery collection at the shops at willowbend. he does good work and has a quick turnaround time. twice recommended.
