Thread: Loom strops vs Hanging?

Is there any real benefits to using a loom strop vs a hanging strop and vise versa?

I own a small loom strop which is ideal for travelling. Pasted with Dovo red paste one side, leather on other. Easier to pack, doesn't get crushed or folded.

It does mean having to double or triple the number of passes before a shave, and the strop speed has to be slower too, but it actually does a great job and still produces a good draw despite its diminutive size.

I had one, but the leather started curling upwards and I cut the leather so I could use it for other things.

And I didn't like the number of passes I had to use anyway.

For travelling I now have a feather. No worries about humidity, damage, loss, or stropping and honing.

The small loom strops are subject to curling so tension must be released every time when done using them. I have corected a few by wetting the leather, reverse curling it and letting it dry with tension releaed.

The Maestro makes a really cool, "Super Size" version.

Thanks for all your input guys. I just curious, I've seen a lot of videos where guys use loom strops or paddles after there done honing and was wondering if it made a difference. I was thinking about it the other day because my shop(Honing area and tools) is in the basement and my bathroom(strop)is on the top floor of a 3 level house. basically im thinking about getting a strop for my shop thats all and need help deciding.
