Thread: Shapleigh Strop

I have an old hanging strop that was my grandfathers. It is embossed on the bottom with "Shapleigh Hardware Co. St. Louis, U.S.A. DE40" inside a diamond. The secondary strop looks like it is cross-hatched. The smooth leather side is well worn and the strop is still very supple. My grandfather died in 1970.

Can anyone tell me anything about this strop.


I also have 2 of his straights. One is very worn 4/8 with serious hone markings labeled "W. L. Buck Co. Oklahoma City" & " Buck's Pet".
The other is a 5/8, also very worn marked "The Baltzy Company Canton Ohio Dist." & "C.S.P.K. Trademark". Any info on these would be greatly appreciated also.
