    Default Dovo Strops & Pastes

What do you guys think of the Dovo strops & pastes? I am trying to assemble a starter kit & would like some opinions. The reason ask about Dovo is I have an account with them, so I could just add a strop & a few pastes on my next order.

I've never used their strops, but I've used their 2-part red & black paste set to good effect. Just make sure to put it in the freezer for a few hours before trying to use it.

Their strops are terrific. Most are thin and pliant. If you like that you'll love the Dovos.

Default The two on the far right

It's personal preference. My daily is the shorter rindeleder on the middle left - I eventually cut the bottom D-ring out, scrapped the linen side and I like it MUCH better.

The leather is nice, but if I had to choose again I would definitely get the longest one I could find (either of the right two). But that's because I'm a slow stropper and like the handicap of the longer strop, it saves me time. I had a leathershop make up two 2' strops out of a belt and I love them. But the leather's kind of slick so I use them for pastes.

I wouldn't mess up an expensive dovo strop with paste. Except for the yellow 'tenderizer' paste, I think it's just animal fat. I tried their green paste and don't like it. When it's time for the green paste I just hone the blade. Get the industrial abrasive pastes (the .5 micron / 1 micron) that come in the syringe, put that on a cheap secondary strop, use the dovo for daily stropping and you should be set.

That's what works best for me. But you can pick whichever, like AFdavis said, any dovo strop works great.

I tried their black and red paste too but didn't like it. It did do something, but it wasn't very fast or fine. I would go with diamond pastes, at least you know what grit you are stropping on then.
I have a diamond edge strop, which I believe is a rebranded Dovo, but much cheaper.
It works, but tends to lose its shape, and has developed quite a hard shiny surface. I wouldn't buy one again, I'd go with one from somebody on this forum, or a homemade one.

Scrape the strop with the blade of a pair of scissors to raise a light nap.

Great, I'll try that, I never use it because of this unusual surface. If I can sort it out I might use it a bit more!
    Thanks
