Thread: Holding a Hanging Strop

I have a 2-piece hanging strop, leather & linen, with paddle handles.
Do you hold both of them together when stropping, or just one at a time?

Do you have any reason to think it matters? Mine are connected, thus flipping it over to use linen is fast.

I tried stropping only holding one, and found that the unused strop would swing and cause movement. Of course, this was much more noticiable when stropping on the linen vs. the leather.

Now, I hold both and adjust so that the one in use isn't under tension, so there's no interference.

Feel free to do it either way, whichever you
prefer.

Interesting you should bring that up Bruce. *Convention* says that's the way it should be done. However, I've been working on a new type of stropping - the juggle-strop.

I've made a special attachment on my belt buckle that holds the handle of my strop, and by leaning back slightly I can keep it taut. I thus have two hands free with which to strop. I started with two razors initially, one in each hand. Then I thought, "Why don't I put all those years in the Circus to good use?" Thus juggle-stropping was born. Once the doctors reattach my index finger, I'm gonna try for 6 razors.

Shouldn't the one in use be under tension?

Or am I missing something.
