Thread: Make your own paddle strop

OK, I was given by my old barber his vintage paddle strop (He also gave me his 3 Filly's ).
The strop, just like the razors, is in bad shape, unfortunately.
I want to restore it so I can have it as a pasted paddle strop, specially to use the CrO paste in it.
What do you think it's the best "surface" to have CrO? Balsa or leather?

Wow I was just rereading this old thread and noticed your question Leon. I prefer balsa over leather and I have tried both. They both seem to work OK. They are now using felt on the surface with good success and if I were to start from scratch that is the way I would go. Maybe some of the guys that have used felt can comment.
I am adding my picture of the new Cerium Oxide Paddle to this thread to keep this in one place. The CeO is the new media that looks promising for pasting or spraying as in this case to your paddles or hanging strops.

Thanked: 77Paddle stropping
Nice strops guys!
So do you use these immediately before your shave instead of leather hanging strop?
What do you use as plain leather hanging strop alternative? Plain balsa? Some sort of paste / spray?
Thanks,
Michael.

Thanked: 317There are all "pasted strops" which are intended for either finishing the honing process, or touching up a razor that hasn't been honed in a while and needs a little help, but doesn't need to be completely re-honed yet.
They wouldn't replace your daily strop at all.
