Thread: Application of Diamond Paste to strop?

What is the recommended procedure for charging a strop with diamond paste or
Chrome Oxide?

I think it depends on the paste, but I spread a very small amount of diamond paste on the ball of my thumb and massage it into the strop. I find it doesn't all soak into one part of the strop so much then. I have heard all sorts of advice though.
You are probably best waiting for Tony or some of the other strop guys to chip in as I'm not an expert!

With the liquid Cr-O I put evenly spaced drops on the surface of the strop then wet my finger with water and spread as evenly as possible. I usually have to wet my finger several times to get it to spread evenly. The next day I like to wet my finger and do it again. The diamond paste is a little harder but I use the same method with it.

What are you guys opinion for the best paste grits to use on a 4 sided paddle strop?

personally I would put Amplex Diamond on two sides, .5 and .25 and CrO on the other and leave one side as a finisher. But thats just me. I usually put a tiny very broken bead of paste on the strop and then work it into the strop with my finger. This is one case where less is more.
