    Default Paddle Strop with Hone?

i won the following strop on ebay. the side on the bottom seems to either have a hone or a wood piece attached. however it sounds ceramic when i tap it with my fingernail. i will post better pics when i get home. the top that you see has nothing on it. the other 2 sides are cushioned.

have any of you seen one that has a hone? pretty cool to me. it was not in the description, so i am stoked. also, how do i know if the leather is still good or should be replaced? again, i will post better pics. thanks.

    Hey Vgod.
This paddle looks like the one I brought up to the Meet Up in the box. If the leather isn't torn you can massage it back into shape, kneed it gently from it's sides. I then used a pumice stone on them. The hone surfaces on mine and all the others I snagged have always chipped off. I replaced them with leather and sanded them down smooth. I also repasted the padded side and one of the honing sides. I did the padded sides with red and green paste and one of the flat leather sides with .1µ black. I use it my shop all the time.

i remember that one. yours was the whole reason i was searching.
the hone side is/appears to be in great shape. the other 2 sides are cushioned, so not sure i can/should do paste. they don't sesem to be really stiff. i will work them with a pumice and let you know. working on photos.

The stone appears to be coticule from the picture. I have a similar one "
torrey" brand. It also has one of the best pieces of coticule. Mike B

Wow! that's in great shape. You can clean the leather. Saddle soap would do nicely. I often us a 220 sand paper, very lightly, to dress the leather. I've discovered that a very fine nap on the leather give a great draw. It works extremely well if you dab some chor ox paste on one side and leave the finish side clean.
