    Default Which Strop?

My next purchase will be a strop for pasting(unless you guys talk me out of it). I already have a hanging strop and wanted to purchase one from Mr. Tony Miller. The question is which one should I buy? I have at least a couple of weeks before I purchase it so I ask now as not to make a mistake. Thx. for your help.

It depends on what intend using the strop for. A travel strop usually is a small 2 sided. A touch up strop is often a 4 sided with 3 or 4 pastes on it. I have a few antique one that I restored both paddle and loom, I've made four sided strops. They all have their appeals. It would help if you would explain what you want from a paddle strop. Or is it that you want a paddle strop?

Coach, If your asking which of Tony's 4 sided paddles to purchace and you like your hanging strop and don't need a travel strop. I would say go for 4 pastes not the combo.

Since you already own a hanging strop a paddle for pastes is the logical next step.

The choice becomes 2 sided or 4 sided. I myself like 4 sides as I enjoy having a variety of paste choices on hand. My personal choice is a 3.0, 1.0, 0.5 in diamond and then possibly a 0.5 in chromium for a final polish. I am more a diamond paste fan but know many like the chromium as it leaves a smoother edge for the same grit size. The 3.0 is a duplicate of the Norton 8K side so may be optional depending on your thoughts. Some feel if they have a Norton already why duplicate that and would opt for a different grit. Others prefer the quick "dry" option if just wanting to refresh a single razore without having to wet or soak their Norton.

If already owning and comfortable using hones maybe a 2 side is all that is needed. Just something for a final polish afterwards. if hoping to avoid hones for a while or planning to send out a razor for honing once in a while a 4 side buys you more time as it oiffers more grit choices.

Our new 2 sides will be back very soon, a one piece design. A test run of 10 are ready for leather.

Dovo, Jemico, myself and others all make various 2 and 4 side padles commercially and once in a while you can snag a nice home craftsman made version here from other SRP members.

Sort of <g>. I sold all the finished ones yesterday but have 80 more pieces on the bench, woodwork is done, finish is needed and then leather. Maybe 2 weeks or so for completion as we are doing a big batch of Starters right now for Monday or Tuesday then 2 1/2" Artisans.
