Pasted Strop - A Query
I've got a hanging strop already, but I'd like to invest in a pasted strop as well. At the moment finances are very tight (European research trip on the horizon = mucho dinero), so I was thinking about getting a cheap ebay strop and some paste. I know this isn't ideal. I understand that. But will the cheapy strop do more damage than good? I assume it doesn't matter so long as the paste is alright. Eventually I'll get a nice one, but in the meantime would this set-up be acceptable for keeping the razor shave ready?

I'd wait for a while. I might have something coming up that could help you
Also you can usually go for several months between honing, especially if you have to. Alternatively there are treatments you could add to your linen that would help forstall honing. there are a couple of threads on pastes for the linen side you might search for.

I was about go edit my original post, and there was already an answer. When using a pasted strop does it matter if the pasted section is the leather or the linen? Given my fiscal situation, would it behoove me to simply paste the back side of my linen?
Also, if I'm only going to have one pasted strop surface to work with, what grade paste should I invest in?
I have 5/8" Dovo Blackstar, if that matters...
Edit: Looking through JoshEarl's strop pasting tutorial it seems that most of my questions are answered. One doesn't need the strop dressing for the linen, right?Last edited by Lunchbox16; 03-13-2008 at 10:41 PM.
