    Default TM starter strop

I just recieved my TM starter strop yesterday.

As has been said countless times on this forum: this is one nice strop!!!

It is the "basic" model TM, but it is SUCH nice leather! Really, it looks and feels so much better in person! You really cannot go wrong with it for the price. The leather is thick and firm. I had some doubts about the single point grommet&thong to hold the strop, but the leather is so robust in its' own right it lays out nice and flat when held taught.

If you are on the fence about what strop to buy, get yourself a TM starter, for ~$35 delivered you cannot go wrong!

It is a really nice strop, but you'll buy an artisan......you know you will. THAT'S a nice strop. Tony's practice strops first rate for that matter, but you'll see how much nicer his artisan models really are.

Thanks guys. On the Starters I use a slightly heavier leather so the single hanging point does not become an issue. The thick leather and metal grommet distribute the forces much better than something thinner.

The Artisans are the same type of leather but in a standard 7oz weight, the Starters at usually over 9oz. It is the hardware, handles/dees, linen and time in construction that accounts for the difference between Artisans and Starters.

I got a "starter" free with an order I placed, and simple as it is, man do I like it.
    It's actually my favorite.

    Joe,
You probably got a practice strop, not a Starter unless I had a slightly defective Starter.

Practice strops have no handles, no grommets and are from second quality leather and sell for $6.50 with an Artisan. Starters are from heavier, first quality leather with a grommeted hole, a cut handle and will carry my logo, not an X as my practice strops do. These are typically $29.95.

Once in a while there may be a freebie in the box if I took way too long to ship something (over a week usually).

I must concur, Tony's starter strop is awesome! As you guys have mentioned, I'll probably buy an artisan strop at some point, but this one does the job and does it very well. Thanks Tony!

Yep, I'll *finally* be ordering one of these soon! (Tomorrow afternoon or evening - apparently!! LOL)
I'm getting excited about it. I've been drooling over it for months!!

The link in my post isn't a practice strop if that's what you were referring to.
I don't know that I've seen a picture of a practice strop - although, I probably have and didn't know it.

I got a free "practice" strop with my order a while back.
I wound up liking it quite a bit, and pasted it (yeah I get good results from a pasted hanging strop).
I was mistaken, thought that and the 'starter' strop were one and the same.
