    Update:

    The leather is nice and smooth, etc. but IT IS NOT FLAT! It is sort of lumpy. And since I went with the very thick 3/16, is is not very pliable, and thus does not conform to the razor as I strop it.

    I may try to wet out the leather and press it down on a flat surface with some weight on it to establish some flatness.

    Other than that I'd recommend you go with the 1/8, or maybe even the 5/64. Or just buy a TM starter strop and save yourself the headaches!
