    Default Good source for pastes!

    http://www.mcmaster.com/

This place is greatfor all sorts of stuff. But ion particular, I just found that they have affordable diamond lapping pastes, of various micron sizes, from 45um down to 0.25um

$8 for 1 micron, $10 for 0.5 micron, water soluble sounds good to me!

I may try the general purpose stuff for blade restoration.

    McMaster rules!

They have everything you need to do anything you want pretty much. And the prices are pretty good. One other thing is that here in Mass, you get overnight delivery for the price of standard shipping.

OK, so McMaster sells not only diamond pastes, but also nice, beefy thick, and creamy smooth cowhide leather strips!

I just recieved my 1.0 micron diamond paste, and a 36" long 3" wide, 3/16 strip of gen-u-ine cowhide. The leather is quite nice. Pretty stiff (the 1/8" would probably be sufficient! Save $5...), it is a very light tan, so it will start to look dingy pretty soon I'll wager.

I sliced it in half, and now have two 18" leather strops awaiting pasting- 1.0um diamond on the one, and Crome Ox on the other.

    Update:

The leather is nice and smooth, etc. but IT IS NOT FLAT! It is sort of lumpy. And since I went with the very thick 3/16, is is not very pliable, and thus does not conform to the razor as I strop it.

I may try to wet out the leather and press it down on a flat surface with some weight on it to establish some flatness.

Other than that I'd recommend you go with the 1/8, or maybe even the 5/64. Or just buy a TM starter strop and save yourself the headaches!
