    Default New Strop

Thought you guys might like to see a couple of pics of the new strop I picked up yesterday. Manufactured locally and distributed by a local razor shop. The seller doesn't get too many of them in as it takes the maker a long time to get them together - had to go on back order for several months to get this one.

Anyway, it's two pieces of leather, one of which has been impregnated with "Carborundum" which I'm guessing is silicon carbide, and the other is Aussie leather. I've taken a close look at the carborundum side - it goes into the leather several mm from what I can see. Nice padded handle and ring stiched into the top.

    Anyway, here are the pics:

The carborundum side feels a bit rough at the moment (haven't used it yet). I intend to run an old junker, or perhaps an old butter knife or something similar, over it first to wear down any rough spots. Then I'll try it on one of my "less nice" razors and see how it hones.

No, I don't mind at all - it was 95AUD. But see my comments in the review forum - the carborundum grit is too coarse, I think. Still a very usable strop on the leather side, but the carborundum side is probably only useful for restoration-type honing.
