    Default Thiers-Issard Wide Paddle.........

Now I'll admit that I'm an Undertaker, NOT a "Hone-Meister"........so this may sound like a dumb question.

Latest shipment of "goodies" included an extra wide T-I paddle strop, .25 diamond & a stick of T-I strop paste. I plan on reserving the diamond until I can get one (or two) of Tony's leather bench hones (which he promises are "coming soon") !

So I thought I'd put some of the T-I stick on one side of their paddle strop, and give it a try.

*QUESTION* - The leather on that paddle seems (to me) to be a little on the course side ?.......Is that the way it's supposed to be ?
It's certainly more course than my hanging strop !

    Marko,
I think TI uses a suede like leather on one side and maybe a smooth, finishing leather on the other. Some fellows prefer the rough surface for some pastes. I did my first paddles that way but went to smooth later.

As long as it is flat without waves from their gluing process it should work fine. Might pay to lay a straight egde across it first to be sure. A little wave probably cannot be helped but occasionally the thick glue and thin leather create a washboard effect.

Thanks Tony !.......I'm happy you used the word "Suede", because THAT'S exactly what it seems to be........now this strop has a black leather on one side, and a tan leather on the other, but they both seem (in my opinion) to have the same texture ?

Maybe they just used different colors to make it easy for us to know what side a particular paste was on ?

Don't take me wrong !......I'm a L-O-N-G way from being knowledgeable about pastes & pasted strops, but I'm trying to learn !

This little T-I stick, I noticed that Lynn used it (in his video) on the linen side of a hanging strop......I'm kind of leaning toward the thought that your hanging strop (for everyday use) shouldn't have anything on it, on the linen OR leather side ?.....and the "instructions" that came with the T-I paddle said to go ahead and use it on their paddle ?

(I swear, I'm gonna' get this all "down-pat" one of these days).....

    Marko........
