Default Is the Dovo red paste coarser or finer than the other Dovo pastes?

    Hello all.

I'm thinking of ordering ChrisL's Chromium Oxide powder. He says it's .5 microns. I already have a red pasted paddle strop, so I was wondering if it was a good idea to paste the powder on the other side of the paddle strop. This way I get a paddle strop with a coarse paste and with a finer paste.
After reading some posts of past threads, I got confused. There seems to be people saying the red paste is finer than the other (green, yellow, black, diamond, ...) pastes and the opposite.
Is the Dovo green paste coarser or finer than .5 micron Chromium Oxide powder? Is the Dovo red paste I currently have coarser or finer than .5 micron Chromium Oxide?

    Thank you all

Dovo red is about 2-3 micron, pretty similar to an 8000 finish (I compared under a microscope), a bit finer than that, but in the ballpark.

I used some on a paddle strop yesterday.

0.5 is definitely much finer! That may be a nice combo to try.

    Default Paste Colors

what is the difference. i have seen Green, White, Brown,& Black pastes.
I am aware that the Green is .5 microns... what about the others and is there an industry standard that applies ratings to the color sharpening/ polishing pastes.
    Thanks

    THERE IS NO STANDARD!!!

Dovo pastes go in order from coarse to fine Green, Red, Black,
The white is for the linen side and we really don't know the grit...
The yellow is just a conditioner...

If anyone finds any info on the white please post I have looked but never found anything in writing on it...

    +1!

Dovo green should NOT be confused with green chrome oxide!!!!

Dovo green is like 6 micron grit size-i.e.- like a 4000 side of a Norton

Found this about the Dovo pastes while browsing the net...

    - Yellow paste works as a conditioner for the leather side of your strop.

    - Red Sharpening Paste is very coarse with a particle size of 2 to 4 microns. Use this paste when you want to refresh the edge of a slightly dull razor. To be used on paddle strops.

    - Green Sharpening Paste is coarse with a particle size of 6 microns and may only be used on a very dull razor. To be used on paddle strops.

    - White Paste is used to refresh the linen side of your strop.

Sorry for bringing this up. The answer was out there.

    Thank you all...

I picked up a tube of the Dovo yellow and a syringe of oil based .5 micron diamond compound from McMaster-Carr. I mixed a small amount of each together in a little bowl and used tha blend on my strop. I used very little and worked it well into the leather with the heel of my hand on a sturdy surface. It works very nicely.
