After having accumulated a few nicks on my stop (happily a cheap one) I tried to repair them with contact cement or rubber glue. A small dab on both surfaces of the nick, pressed together after both dry, restores it so you'd never know it never happened. You need to be careful however, to remove any excess glue from the surface. This may be well-known the to seasoned shavers, but as a newbie, I just discovered. (But then again, the seasoned shavers probably don't nick their strops.)
