I still suggest leaving a strop alone. Rub it gently with the hand at best. On a smooth surface strop dressing can have some benefit but on the finely napped surface it is likely to just lay the fibers down and create a glaze.
Less is more.

Thx Tony,
that's what I thought. I've been using my hands only for my latigo strop with great success. A small suede brush works wonders on the buffed horsehide. Just use a very light touch and don't overdo it but it definitely seems to work to raise and revive the nap if ever needed.
