Default Yes, I really needed a strop!

Some of the guys responding to my "Do I really need a strop?" thread convinced me to get one.

I got a Caswell Massey on ebay for a quite low price. It seems a quality product, made in Germany, with Russ. Tuchen stamped in the leather which I think means Russian material. The leather has a fine, even grain.

I also received a some strop dressing and some Dovo red and black from KnifeCenter.com.

To test my new acquisition, I dulled (sliced up sheets of typing paper) two razors: A Robeson Shuredge and my first, a stainless First Class Solingen.

I honed using 2000 grit sandpaper, then stropped using cardstock pasted with Flitz and the two dovo pastes. (I wonder where they found foil that thin? They could improve their packaging by using Hersey's Kiss wrappers.)

When I tested the edges on my arm hair both razors seemed shave ready right then, actually they seemed sharper than I'd ever had them!

I then gave each a hundred passes on my new strop.

The shaving experience was, different. Both razors seemed to glide over the surface as opposed to having to be muscled through my beard. The sound was much less as well, not the heavy rainstorm sound I've been accustomed to.

A great improvement! Well worth the investment of time and money.

    Thanks for the encouragement!

I have to admit, I take a certain amount of personal pleasure from reading this .

And congrats on the new found dimension to your shave experience.

Yes, but I think you should still be really bummed out. . .

I've always just gotten people to do things "right" but ya know . . .
