Thread: Paste on which side?

Whoa, Please dont use red paste on one of Tonys Strops,Most of us that paste a strop usr green Chromium Oxide 0.5 Micron in size, the Red Dovo paste is probably way too course for this and was meant to be used on a Paddle,When i read Josh Earls sticky on this,He pasted the inside of the Linen or Canvas, and just flipped it around to use it, you dont want to use paste everyday,as it will wear your razor prematurly,Personally i would find a canvas strop and use it for that purpose,i got mine on ebay for $9.99 in new condition never used,I think Josh used strop conditioner to mix the paste in,But i wouldnt do that to a TM Strop they are way too nice

I think he wanted to paste the canvas side, not the leather........at least I hope so. These things are still my babies even though they are in your hands now

On the current 3" canvas I feel it lays better side to side with the brown stripes outward so would paste that side if you must....BUT, I am not a fan of pasting the cloth myself.

The 2 1/2" seems better brown stripe side inward.

Thanks for the post Jwoods The Vintage Blades site states the red as being "mild" and the green as "coarse"

I still consider myself a newbie but I have learned here that using a pasted strop/paddle is not for everyday use and only to freshen up a blade and with occasional use will extend the time between honing.

Don't get me wrong, Tony's strops are certainly the "Cream of the Strops" and I wouldn't want to ruin it based on the premium money I spent on it, but it was bought to be used Having a limited budget I've tried to make my kit quality, yet versatile.
