Too much paste on strop?
I put Norton's .5 micron diamond compound on the reverse side of my leather strop about three days ago and it is still not dry. It feels sticky to the touch and it rubs off easily. So what should I do now? Take a cloth to it and remove as much paste as I can?

I didn't know norton made diamond compound. Do you know what the carrier is they use? Also are you sure it is designed for the purpose you are using it? It could be you put too much on but it should still dry. I would give it more time and see what happens.

This is the website and product that I purchased. It says that it can be put on a leather strop. Maybe they sent me the wrong product, the paste is gray in color.

It looks like the right stuff. Did you apply it right from the syringe or add any oil to it? If you used it straight as is it should have dried but then again it depends how much you used. Little is more with this stuff. You don't have to put a thick coat just enough to do the job like a very light film.

Here is a link to a tutorial on pasting strops that may help you.

Norton and Amplex are all owned by the same company. That said though the website linked too mentions thinning with oil. The Amplex we typically use and sold by Classic and myself is water based and will dry (sooner or later, that is). The oil based will always remain a bit wet whether thinned further or not.
The tubes shown do not have the typical Amplex label and are way darker in color than any of the normal pastes...stock phot maybe, but not really what we tend to use.

maybe Tony will have some suggestions on how to best thin the stuff out. if it was water based just some water on the strop-a very little, could thin it but if its oil based I don't know.

I have not used oil based myself so am unsure as to how one would thin it out. I would guess it could be rubbed off wit a clean rag till you are down to nearr the leather surface only. That should still leave plenty to do the job.
