Thread: Buying Tony Miller strops from UK?

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone from over here in the UK has managed to buy a strop from Tony Miller. They look absolutely fantastic, and with the exchange rate they seem very low-priced for workmanship of that quality!

For anyone who has one of these, I suppose my questions really are: How long did it take to arrive this side of the pond? and: did the shipping cost a lot?

I have bought a few TM strops and can attest to their quality and fitness for purpose. Money well spent!!
Delivery across the pond can take up to 10 days but can be as fast as 5 days. Postage cost is reasonable and not a consideration imo when you are getting an item that will more than satisfy.

I'll definitely be ordering one of those when Tony's taking orders again. Do you have any preference for the Horsehide or Latigo? TBH I've no idea what the difference would be (other than appearance). Does one produce a better edge than another? Sorry, many questions!

You won't go wrong with a Latigo as a good starting point. You will buy another at some time I'm sure, so go for horse then 2.5" Latigo with the real linen would be a good setup and one I would recommend.

I live in County Durham UK and bought the 3" Artisan a couple of months ago. It cost about £55 including postage.

Executive shaving, which is a UK based company do sell them but I think they are around £78 plus postage.

Tony is awesome to deal with and the quality of his products is superb!. It only takes a few days for his strops to arrive in the UK once they are posted. Highly recommended!

That's really not a lot o' money (even for a tight-fisted Scotsman LOL!) when it's quality like that. Just realised that although the Dovo strop I got from Invisible Edge (another great guy to deal with!) is fine, the thing's so short that I'm doing twice as many passes to get the edge right.

Plus the TM ones will look better hanging in my man-bog!

I have international ordering and costs on my storefront home page. Typically $27 US buys Priority International Mail shipping for the average strop. Apprentice strops ship a dollar or two less, several strops together a bit more...all weight based and at actual cost.

It will be a while though till I am taking orders again, sorry. I am way down on stock and find it impossible to keep up when I am filling orders eeach week. I tried fitting in small batches between shipping days but that only buys me a day or two at a time.

For now I need to replenish stock to fairl;y high numbers before shipping again or else I will never get ahead. Remember, this is not my main business and I have only so many hours a week I can devote to it now.

I too have bought a TM strop and the workmanship is unsurpassed. Tony demonstrates a level of quality and attention to detail that is rarely found from any manufacturer today, let alone a chap who does it as a hobby/second job.
