Thanked: 0Should I get a new strop?
Hi all,
So I just got my second razor (A 7/8 Henckels Friodur; it's awesome and I'm excited), which gave me the best shave I've ever had when I tried it out yesterday. Now I'm a bit overprotective of it, and I'm worried my strop won't keep the edge up to par. My first razor was a square-point, which I used irregularly for maybe the last 6 months, and I really chewed up the strop while learning how to use it. There are a number of nicks along both sides, especially at the top and bottom, and a lot of slight lines where I dragged the point a little clumsily.
Basically, I'm wondering if I've got enough of an excuse to spring for a new and nicer strop. The one I have now is the Tony Miller starter/travel strop.
Thanks!

You could probably do a little light sanding on the top to bring her back into top form. I don't remember it it's actually sandpaper that is used, or some other type of abrasive, but I know it can be done. Then again, if you are looking for an excuse to get a new strop, it sounds to me like you've found one.

Ah, clean up the strop and use it for Cromium Oxide and get a new strop from Tony!

Thanked: 0So all four of you say go for the new strop... I guess I can't argue, I'll just have to suck it up and buy myself something nice. Too bad.
And that's actually a fantastic idea with the Chromium oxide, I'll have to look into that. It gets rid of any qualms I had about wasting my still-functional strop.
Now, to choose a good one...

I guess you may have noticed that I had this problem before and relegated the slightly damaged strop to CrO use.
