Thread: Paddle Strop Leather

Newbie question. I want to get a paddle strop to refresh my edge with some diamond paste. Is the leather a suede type or smooth?

I always use a smooth, top grain leather for pastes on my paddles. The abrasive embeds itself well with this surface and I feel it it less likely to round an edge over a suede type where the leather fibers are long causing the razors edge to sink into the surface a bit. A smooth, rather stiff surface is what I suggest.
