    "Webbing"/Straps seem to be readily available. The seamless hose like used in the days of old is what I'd be interested in.

    A lot of the strops I've seen use webbing - you can tell by the give-away coloured line running the length of the webbing - it is a colour coded thread denoting the type of webbing.

    Some horse/tack shops sell narrow (2 to 2.5 inch) wide canvas/flax/jute/linen by the metre - some of it is a bit hairy, but it does the job.
