    Question Strop Care

I have heard that you should clean a canvas and leather strop with a little lather and let dry. Is this true? How do you maintain your strops?

I clean my leather strop with the same leather cleaner I use in my car once a month, and the strop stays nice and clean

Unless the leather is old and very dirty I don't think you have to worry about cleaning it. really all you need to do is work it with your hand to transfer some of the oil to the strop. if you want to use a commercial product its best to avoid products that contain petroleum distilites. Short term it may feel better but long term it dries the leather out. A great product for conditioning is Bick. It's ph balanced to match the leather and is the best I've found. lexol isn't bad either. As far as the cloth goes just soap and water and some elbow grease.
