    Default Strop keeper/dees

    Greetings all.

I have decided to make my own strop. Why you ask? Well for one, I do a bit of leatherworking as a hobby and thought it would be a fun project. And two to maybe save a couple of bucks (maybe).

Anyway, I am having a heck of a time finding a metal keeper/dee that has a loop on the end for hanging the strop on to a hook.

Does anyone know where I could get a keeper/dee with a swivel loop or hook on the end?

I suppose a plain "dee" would work, but I am concerned the strop would hang at some goofy looking angle. Does anyone have any thoughts regarding making your own strop? My idea was to make two leather sides, one pasted, the other plain.

    Thanks,
    ~Robert

    Hi Robert:

Check out a horse tack supply store. Or, Tandy leather has D rings in quite a few sizes. Tandy does not have the swivel hangers you're talking about. The D rings are pretty inexpensive and when mounted on one or both ends of the strop, they hang just fine from a hook.

    Chris:

Thanks. I looked around the Internet and was not able to find the dees with the swivel hoops.

Tandy Leather and I are old friends. If you say the strop will hang OK using just a dee and a hook, I'll give that a try.

    Thanks.

Chris had a good idea. My daughter rode (and still does) those large 4-legged creatures to put saddles on. The tack stores generally have bins of various types of hardware. There should be one around you...
