    I have similar questions!
What is the difference between the two?
    Do I need both?
Can I just have regular horsehide & canvas as my daily strop?

The horsehide tends to have less draw that the latigo. Either will do the same job with the same end result, but the difference is in how it feels...the feedback you get in use. Some don't mind a lesser sensation of draw, other want it. In a dual setup the Horsehide/Latigo can be used two ways:

Start on the Latigo for half your passes then switch over to the horsehide to finish on, or

Use the Latigo exclusively for heavy weight razors, wedges, etc... where the higher draw slows the blade a bit and gives more control and use the horsehide for lighter weight razors that would feel bogged down on a heavy draw strop.

I think if I were only buying one strop, on a budget the Latigo would do everything required of it for a bit less money. The horsehide is not better, just different. If you want the traditional material and don't mind a lesser draw than maybe the horsehide would fit the bill of an "only" strop. The dual is for those who need the best of both....or just can't decide <g>

Thanks Tony, that answered my question exactly!

I think I will definitely pick up one of your Heirloom Artisan Latigo Strops (with a practice strop) when they are back in stock!
