Default Chromium Oxide for Lapidary Polishing

I've found this chromium oxide on eBay. Would anyone say that this is the same as the Hand American stuff? It looks like a good deal. There's 1/2lb of it too.

The only thing you have to watch out for is alot of the polishes sold may say CrO but in fact it many contain some other stuff in addition which may be fine for rock polishing but not for razors. That stuff says optical grade which means it designed for polishing optics like mirrors for telescopes and other magnifiers.

I thought it being optical polish would be a good thing since you would need something really smooth. Do you think this stuff is no good?

Look here, description says " It is 99.9% pure and has a grade of 0.5 microns."

    Costs less.

    Haven't tried it.

    Good day,

It was $15.80 with shipping. But I figured the Hand American crhromium oxide would be similar in price after shipping costs. You only get 4oz with Hand American as compared to the 8oz with this stuff though. I'll have to let you all know how it works after I get it.

I wonder how long a full pound would last us mere mortals that might have 4-6 razors..

I just got my chromium oxide. And I've pasted my balsa wood strop. Using a strop conditioner as a base. I let it dry over night, but it still feels wet. Will this stuff always have a wetness to it, or did I just use too much and it needs more time to dry?

Also, it was kind of funny. I used so little of the chromium oxide I feel I literally may never have to buy any ever again.

It shouldn't feel wet, perhaps you used too much conditioner and it needs a while longer to dry?? And it does take VERY little to paste a whole strop. I'm sure what you have will last you a LOOOONNNNG time!

Okay, I believe I'm going a bit crazy. The paste is still moist. When I touch it, it still comes off a little on my finger. I feel that I've screwed up somewhere.
